Women's basketball stifled by Alvernia

READING, Pa. – The Hood College women's basketball team falls in road contest against Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth opponent Alvernia University 75-44.

Inside the Box Score
Tiffany Manning (Randallstown, Md./Western Tech) had the most points for Hood with 16 along with 4 rebounds.

Chanelle Lee (Brunswick, Md./Saint John's Catholic Prep) had 14 points, nine rebounds, four steals and one assist on the night. 

Amari Faust (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock) picked up four points and two rebounds. 

How it Happened
The Blazers started the game out scoring first with a made two-point bucket by Lee. Then Alvernia responded with two three pointers of its own. Manning made a two point jumper with a minute left to close out the quarter with a score of 17-10 in favor of the Golden Wolves. 

To begin the second quarter Alvernia got on the board first with a made three pointer by Taliyah Malone. The Blazers then cut the Golden Wolves' lead to just eight after a made jumper in the paint by Lee. In the third minute both teams would trade baskets in a scoring sequence. Amidst Alvernia's three made shots in this sequence, Lee knocked down a layup along with a made three pointer Libby Kiley (Taneytown, Md./Springdale Prep). Ending the first half Manning hit two free throws and Lee made a layup in the paint. The Golden Wolves led at the end of the half 34-23. 

Both teams showed great defensive stands for the first four minutes of the third quarter. The scoring drought was cut after Lee made two free throws cutting Alvernia's lead to just nine. The quarter concluded with a score of 55-30 for Alvernia.

The Blazers battled with the Golden Wolves closing out the game. but were unable to come out as victors as Alvernia led 75-44 at the end of regulation. 

For the Opponent
Taliyah Malone led the Golden Wolves with 16 points and three assists. 

Kayla Williams followed closely behind with 15 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. 

Analysis
Alvernia shot 40.3 percent from the field, compared to 27.1 percent from Hood.

Both teams tied for points in the paint with 24.

Notes
When asked about the outcome of the game, Head Coach DéRonté Polite said, "We didn't perform tonihgt. We played hard in moments, but moments are not good enough in our conference."

The Blazers drop to 3-14 overall, 2-5 in conference, and the Golden Wolves improve to 11-7 overall, 3-4 in conference.
