DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – A hot start from the Hood College men's lacrosse team opened the floodgates for an offensive downpour as they soundly defeated Delaware Valley 12-2.
Inside the Box Score
Owen McDermott (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) led the offense with three goals and four assists for a seven-point day.
Garrett Hitchens (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) managed to reach an astounding 10 ground balls on the day.
Brendan Smith (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area Senior High School) snagged five ground balls.
How it Happened
It took all of 39 seconds for the Blazers to get on the board, as
Robbie Wiley (York, Pa./Central York) ripped a shot into the back of the net on the first shot of the game to give Hood the early 1-0 lead.
Things quieted down for a while after the immediate action, but Hood managed to score three times in the final 3:10 of the first period, including a last second rocket from
Rio Muldoon (Prince Frederick, Md./DeMatha Catholic) making it a 4-0 advantage for the Blazers after 15 minutes.
The Aggies managed to get a goal back just a few minutes into the second quarter, but
Connor Flok (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) answered with a tally of his own four minutes later.
Another late three-goal outburst that saw
Latif Yacoubou Adam (Eldersburg, Md./Century) get his first goal of the season and
Jay Lanigan (Merrimack, N.H./Merrimack) add another last-second mark gave Hood an 8-1 advantage heading into halftime.
Other than another Muldoon goal less than two minutes into the third quarter, both teams were fairly quiet, as the only other score was a Delaware Valley answer with 5:21 left in the frame to give the Blazers a 9-2 lead going into the fourth quarter.
The Blazers were not done just yet, however, putting another three shots past the Aggies' goalie to round out the scoring for the day with a 12-2 victory.

Jim Murphy made 17 saves in the game.
George Evanick scored both goals for the Aggies, scooping up nine ground balls on top of that.
