Field Hockey clips wings of Falcons

FREDERICK, Md. – Goals in the bookend periods of the Hood College field hockey team's game against Cedar Crest College kept the Blazers undefeated at home, grabbing a 2-0 victory in non-conference action.

Inside the Box Score
Lillie Kodrin (Ijamsville, Md./Oakdale) and Bianca Scally (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks) both scored for Hood, with Kodrin assisting on Scally's goal.

Emma Massey (Felton, Del./Lake Forest) and Madeline Moreno (Mansfield, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) each picked up an assist.

Kindal Davis (Suffolk, Va./Lakeland) and Grace Guy (St. Mary's County, Md./Chopticon) both played in the game, but neither had to face any shots.

How it Happened
The Blazers came out of the gate swinging, pressuring the Cedar Crest defense enough to get a penalty corner less than two minutes into the game. Just a few seconds later, a shot from Moreno just inside the circle was tipped over the goalie's pads by Kodrin to get Hood on the board early. Despite the early concession, Falcons goalie Shelby Heater stopped everything else she faced, holding the Blazers to a 1-0 advantage after 15 minutes.

Cedar Crest managed to find their offensive footing in the second, putting together several consecutive penalty corners of their own, but Hood's defense prevented any shot from getting close to the goal. The Blazers quickly returned to the attacking side of the field, but were once again unable to solve Heater, heading into halftime still with their one-goal lead.

After a relatively quiet third quarter that saw just two shots on goal, Hood quickly got back on track in the fourth and final quarter, getting shots on goal just a few minutes in. The constant pressure was eventually rewarded when a deep Scally shot snuck just inside the post to double their lead. With four minutes left, the Falcons threatened to get back within one thanks to back-to-back penalty corners, but their attempts were thwarted, with the final buzzer sounding to cement the Blazers' victory.

For the Opponent
Heater finished the afternoon with 15 saves.

Analysis
Hood outshot Cedar Crest 34-6.

The Blazers had an 11-7 edge in penalty corners.
