FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – A late goal was the back breaker for the Hood College women's soccer team as they fell 1-0 to the University of Mary Washington on the road.
Inside the Box Score
Brenna Ellenberger (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) made 15 saves in the loss.
How it Happened
After some initial back and forth in the midfield, UMW began to stay pushed up as their offense found their stride, putting Hood's backs against the wall and forcing them to rely on Ellenberger, who turned aside every shot close to the net in the first half to keep the score knotted at 0-0 at the end of the first half.
Unfortunately for the Blazers, the second half ended up being eerily similar to the first, but this time it only took two minutes for the Eagles to get a shot on goal which was of course knocked away by Ellenberger.
Despite some moments of possession reprieve, Hood was unable to create any offense, and when it looked like they might come away with a tie, UMW finally managed to get past the brick wall they had in net and get on the board. Attempts at a tying goal were unable to be made, as the horn sounded after 90 minutes to give the Blazers a 1-0 loss.
For the Opponent
Ellen Shine scored the game's lone goal.
