READING, Pa. – The Hood College field hockey team continued its strong conference campaign with a commanding 2-0 shutout victory over Albright College on Wednesday afternoon. The win marks the Blazers' first 2-0 start to conference play since 2004.
Inside the Box Score
Bianca Scally (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks) and
Madeline Moreno (Mansfield, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) were responsible for a goal a piece.
Sydney Fleming (Fredericksburg, Va./Courtland) had a pair of assists on the afternoon.
Kylie Roessler (Tewksbury, N.J./Vorhees) marked her second assist of the season.
How it Happened
The Blue & Grey only needed two and a half minutes to check-in to the score column. After a stoppage of play, Fleming maneuvered through the defense and before directing a pass to Roessler at end line who fed Scally at point blank to cash in for the lead.
The Blazers' defense was impenetrable, holding the Lions to just three shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper
Grace Guy (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon) recorded her second shutout of the season, making three saves to preserve the clean sheet.
Hood's backline, anchored by
Natalie Badour (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) and
Emma Numme (Shrub Oak, NY/Lakeland), stifled Albright's attack and allowed the Blazers to maintain control in all four quarters.
The Pride held on during the third in hopes to come back, but the Blazers continued to pressure with corners. A corner taken by Fleming was delivered to Moreno and her shot slammed against the back of the goal to bring vibrations through the stadium and the last pulse of the game flatlined.
For the Opponent
Mackenzie Bunn made five saves for Albright.
