Field Hockey late surge falls short in OT against Aggies

DOYLESTOWN, Pa - The Hood College field hockey team fell short in overtime 2-1 on the road, against the Aggies of Delaware Valley on Saturday afternoon.  
 
Inside the Box Score  
 
Morgan Hackett (Hampstead, Md./Hereford) had the Blazers sole goal during the contest and her first of the season. 
 
Kate Haufe (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) had three shots on goal for the Blazers.  
 
Madeline Moreno (Mansfield, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) made a defensive save.  
 
How it Happened  
 
The Blazers offense tested the Aggies goalkeeper early into the contest by Kate Haufe (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park)
 
Haufe looked to give Hood the early lead with a goal two minutes into the game but was saved by the Aggies.
 
Shortly after Morgan Hackett (Hampstead, Md./Hereford) would attempt a shot that was blocked and teammate Ava Snelsire (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) stayed aggressive for the Blazers firing off another shot that was saved.  
 
The Aggies, sensing the Blazers offensive aggressiveness, took a shot of their own that gave Delaware Valley a 1-0 lead in the first quarter.  
 
Starting the second quarter, the Blazer attempted a penalty corner by Natalie Badour (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) that found Morgan Hackett (Hampstead, Md./Hereford) for a shot that was saved.  
 
The Blazers continued to stay aggressive against the Aggies staggering defense but couldn't find the equalizing goal going into the half.  
 
Throughout the third quater it highlighted the defensive prowess on both sides as the Blazers couldn't break even and the Aggies couldn't break away.  
 
With time running out on the Blazers and only three minutes remaining in regulation Hood earned a penalty corner .
 
First year Sydney Fleming (Fredericksburg, Va./Courtland) took the penalty corner for the Blazer that found teammate Morgan Hackett (Hampstead, Md./Hereford) who fired off a shot that found the back of the net to make it 1-1.  
 
The Blazers feeling the momentum after the Hackett goal looked to win in thrilling fashion.  
 
Hood's momentum would be short lived with just over three minutes into OT saw the Aggies scoring off a deflection that found the back of the goal giving Delaware Valley a 2-1 win over Hood.  
 
For the Opponent  
 
Maggie Fijal and Alex Graffius both scored a goal for the Aggies.  
 
Analysis  
 
Hood led Delaware  Valley in shots 14-8.  
 
The Aggies edged the Blazers in saves 4-7
 
Blazers and Aggies tied for penalty corners at 8.
