Women's Basketball outpaced by surging Bridgewater

FREDERICK, Md. – The women's basketball team welcomed a surging Bridgewater team and dropped the contest 70-33 in Woodsboro Bank Arena on Friday night.

Inside the Box Score

Maya Gordon (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) scored nine points to lead all Blazers on the night.
Sami Betley (Bel Air, Md./Mercy) and Amya Pulley (Reistertown, Md./Western Tech) grabbed seven boards apiece.

How it Happened

Despite the score, the game never felt out of reach nor close until the fourth quarter. A couple of quick turnovers along with two passes by the Eagles in transition that awkwardly floated towards the sidelines created clunky offensive possessions for both teams.

Hood turned a couple of jump shots by Gordon and Pulley into a 6-5 lead. Although there were misses in between, personal fouls gave the Blue & Grey second chances especially at the foul line to try to keep them on pace which was a theme during the game.

The highly touted Bridgewater team eventually took over, their Riley Corcoran hit two straight buckets to pull away has the home squad struggled from the field in the second.

As the Eagles crept away, it wasn't via getaway. Their pace was slowed by the Blazer defense and the help by Betley's return along with Pulley grabbed boards and provided the height they needed to change the outcomes of possessions on both ends.

But the new found piece wasn't strong enough to combat the scores for Bridgewater off of turnovers and in transition all-in-one.

For the Opponent

Riley Corcoran put up 18 points and went 8-for-13 from the field.

Seven different players posted more than one make on the night.

Analysis

Hood went 12-for-22 at the line, drawing 17 fouls.
