ROANOKE, Va. – The Hood College women's basketball team lost its final game of the 2025 calendar year 74-29 to Hollins University.
Inside the Box Score
Kourtney Johnson (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch) led the Blazers with nine points, shooting 4-7 from the field.
Jaylah Putman (Jacksonville, Fla./Long Reach) came away with five steals.
How it Happened
Hollins got things started with a three-pointer 23 seconds in, and managed to score seven total points before a jumper from Johnson stopped their run. A layup and made free throw from
Maya Gordon (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) cut the deficit to just four points at 9-5, but that would be the closest the Blazers would get, as Hollins would extend their lead to 19-7 by the end of the quarter.
A 12-0 run from Hollins put Hood in a bigger hole to start the second quarter, and by the time it went into the halftime break the deficit had grown to 40-9.
Although the third quarter would be the team's most successful of the game, it was not enough to keep Hollins from adding to their lead, with a jumper from
Jah Savoy (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) at the end of the quarter making it a 55-21 affair. A mass of scoring would ensue for the first three minutes of the fourth, but after a pair of buckets from each team with around five minutes left, the only other scoring would be a layup for Hollins with 18 seconds left to make the final score 74-29 for a Blazers loss.
