FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Hood College women's basketball team started the new year on the road against the Eagles of Mary Washington falling short in the contest 60-33.

Maya Gordon (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) hit double figures with 10 points.

How it Happened
Mary Washington came out of the gates fast against Hood climbing to a 9-0 lead just over three minutes into the game.
The Blazers found some momentum from a
Jaylah Putman (Jacksonville, Fla./Long Reach) three and a
Maya Gordon (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) layup.
Putman caught fire and hit another clutch jumper to close the gap to just two and made it 9-7.
Mary Washington played with more urgency, to go on a 9-2 run to end the first quarter with a 18-9 lead.
In the second quarter, Mary Washington continued to hit shots and headed into the break with 31-19 advantage over Hood.
Despite the deficit, Hood continued to battle in the contest but were unable to capitalize on opportunities in the second half.
Mary Washington used a strong second half and sustained their lead over Hood to hand them their first loss in 2026.
Analysis
Mary Washington shot 37% from the field, while Hood shot just 27%.
The Blazers had 24 turnovers to the Eagles 17 in the game.
For the Opponent
Juliona Mabie had a double-double in the contest, scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Maddy Jenisch added 11 points and joined Mabie as the only Eagles in double figures.
