How it Happened
- The Cougars got on the scoreboard first, starting off the match with a three-goal run. Then Hood's very own Lanigan capitalized on a Chatham penalty scoring his first goal during a man up opportunity. Resonding to Lanigan's goal the Cougar's added on two more to give them a 5-1 lead early in the first. After Chatham's goal Strand won the following faceoff for the Blazers and dished the ball to Kyle Hudson (Millersville, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) who served the goalie a shot and score cutting the lead to three. With another two-goal run for Chatham the Cougars looked to gain a comfortable lead early in the first. Robbie Wiley (York, Pa./Central York) tacked on one more for the Blazers with just under five minutes to go in the quarter. The Cougars' Adam Rinker found himself on the stat sheet as he contributed to Chatham's 8-3 lead. With three minutes remaining in the period Nafziger scored his first of the day. Closing out scoring in quarter the Cougars led 8-4.
- Starting out the second quarter as the Blazers got on the board early with a shot from Aidan Gilsdorf (Frederick, Md./Gov Thomas Johnson) after catching a pass from Connor Flok (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus). As the quarter progressed Chatham managed to go on another three-point run ultimately giving the team a six-goal lead. With 25 seconds remaining in the quarter James Fay (Howell, N.J./Howell) scored his first goal of the day after a successful clear for Hood led by Brendan Smith (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area Senior High School). Heading into the second half the score was 11-6 Chatham.
- In the third quarter of play both teams seemed to have struggled to get an offense going in the first five minutes. The drought was then stopped by Gilsdorf after he found the back of the net for a second time this game. Unfortunately for Hood the momentum shifted, and Chatham went on another scoring run sneaking four past the Blazers' keeper. Chatham, now with a 15-7 edge, were responded to once more as Hood knocked back to of their own thanks to Lanigan and Nafziger. Then with little time remaining the Cougar's patiently waited to score one more goal to close out the quarter.
- The fourth quarter began with a Cougar goal, but Hood looked to create a comeback bid. Following Chatham's initial goal both teams took advantage of man-up opportunities and settled the score at 10-18. The Blazers now motivated after scoring double digits put on a three-goal clinic looking to regain the lead curtesy of Nafziger, Rio Muldoon (Prince Frederick, Md./DeMatha Catholic), and Lanigan. The Cougars responded to Hood's run adding one more to make the game just slightly out of reach. With just over a minute remaining in regulation Flok took a strong dodge and netted his first goal of the day. After Flok's goal the Blazers trailed the Cougars by five. Then as the final buzzer sounded Chatham led 19-14.
