READING, Pa. – A four-goal effort from
Regan Tesche (Avondale, Pa./Salesianum School) gave the Hood College men's lacrosse team its first Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth win of the season, defeating Alvernia University 13-5.
Inside the Box Score
Tesche finished with four goals, a single-game career high.
David Lubrano (Middletown, Del./Appoquinimink) had two goals and two assists on the night.
Usually a scorer,
Deegan Workman (Chattanooga, Tenn./Soddy Daisy) turned into a facilitator with a goal and three assists.
Lucas Strand (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) picked up 10 ground balls.
Calvin Morris (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) made 12 saves in the win.
How it Happened
Both the offensive and defensives of Hood clicked in the first quarter, with the
Eric Reese (Erie, Pa./McDowell) scoring the Blazers' first goal on their second offensive possession after the defense forced a turnover. Saves from Morris and more turnovers made way for the quarter to turn into the Tesche show, as the junior scored a natural hat trick in the period to give Hood a 4-0 lead heading into the second.
Neither team was able to get much going to start the second quarter, but a pair of goals in 1:23 put the Blazers ahead 6-0 before Alvernia was able to get on the board. Hood quickly responded to the Golden Wolves' goal with one of its own though, keeping the six-goal lead intact at halftime.
It looked like the Blazers would run away with the game after getting two goals in less than a minute to start the third quarter, but Alvernia held them off while getting three of their own the rest of the way, making it a 9-4 affair with 15 minutes to play.
A goal from the Golden Wolves less than 30 seconds into the fourth made things pretty interesting at 9-5, but Hood was able to return to its first quarter form the rest of the way, notching four more goals, including three in the final five minutes, while holding Alvernia scoreless to finish the game with a 13-5 win.
For the Opponent
Keegan Driscoll and Jack Natyshak both scored twice.
Natyshak had seven ground ball pickups.
