WASHINGTON, D.C.--Nine different Blazers scored and the Hood
College men's soccer team (4-6, 1-4 CAC) set a program record for
goals in a single game in a 10-2 rout of Capital Athletic
Conference rival Gallaudet University (0-9, 0-5 CAC) Saturday
afternoon.
Hood's 10 goals on the day broke the previous school record of
nine set Sept. 16, 2006 against Lancaster Bible College. The
Blazers also snapped a four-match losing skid and secured their
first conference victory of the fall.
Senior Tom Noonan got things going in the third minute of the
contest when he knocked in a feed from Craig Wachter. Noonan struck
again in the 15th minute with an unassisted tally, the 29th of his
Blazer career.
Then, just 30 seconds later, freshman Adam Peterson registered
the first goal of his collegiate career to put Hood up 3-0. Noonan
and senior Marcelino Rabara assisted on the score. Rabara got into
the action in the 17th minute with an unassisted goal, his sixth of
the season.
Two other Blazers connected on their first goals in the blue and
gray when Jonathon Dawson beat Bison keeper David Owens in the
right corner of the net and Joe Stanley converted a penalty kick
for his first career tally. In the 34th minute, senior Samson
Olorunfemi crossed the ball to sophomore Quinn Miller who finished
for his second goal of the season.
Hood outshot Gallaudet 20-3 in the first half and built a
commanding 7-0 advantage at intermission.
Gallaudet got all of its scoring from one source as Zane
Noschese collected an unassisted tally and cashed in on a penalty
kick less than three minutes apart.
Freshman Max Gebhart had a hand in Hood's next three scores, all
within a span of 5:21. He and Dawson assisted on a goal by
Olorunfemi in the 73rd minute. Gebhart scored a goal of his own
just 18 seconds later, set up by Olorunfemi, and he fed Jason
Donnelly on the left side for Hood's record-breaking 10th goal of
the day in the 79th minute.
All three Hood netminders saw time in goal against the Bison.
Sophomore Shawn Fernholz started the game and worked a scoreless
first half, making three saves. Freshman Michael Hardman played the
first 28 minutes of the second half and also made three saves and
classmate Kyle Hodum finished the contest but did not face a shot
on goal.
Hood returns to action Monday against St. Mary's College (Md.)
in a CAC contest at 4 p.m.
