CRESSON, Pa.--Five different Blazers registered their first
goals of the 2008 season Thursday as the Hood College men's soccer
team (3-2) blanked the Mt. Aloysius College Mounties (0-2) by a 5-0
count in a nonconference game.
Hood scored twice in the first half on unassisted tallies by
freshman Christopher Mendez and junior Corey DeMaster. Then senior
Tom Sprague scored his first goal of the season and the fifth of
his career in the 56th minute to make it 3-0. Junior Carlin Rabie
converted a penalty kick a little less than five minutes later and
freshman Matt Sharp rounded out the scoring with his first career
goal in the 67th minute.
Shawn Fernholz and Kyle Hodum each played one half in the net
for the combined shutout. Hood outshot the Mounties 17-3 as Mike
Godissart stopped two of the seven Blazer shots on goal.
Hood hosts its first game of the season at Thomas Athletic Field
Saturday when the Blazers take on the Waynesburg College Yellow
Jackets at 3:30 p.m.
