FREDERICK, Md.--Four different players scored for the Hood
College men's soccer team (1-3) in a 5-0 shutout over visiting Mt.
Aloysius College (0-2) Thursday afternoon in a nonconference game.
Hood put the skids on a three-game losing streak in a big way,
ripping off 67 total shots in the decisive victory. Freshman Naseem
Zietoon scored the first two goals of his Blazer career to stake
the Blazers to a 2-0 lead by the 18th minute. That score would
stand at half despite Hood's 34-3 shot advantage in the first 45
minutes.
Sophomore Chris Mendez converted a penalty kick to Mountie
keeper Alex Haines' right in the 69th minute for his first score of
the fall. The senior tandem of Corey DeMaster and Carlin Rabie also
got into the scoring column with single tallies in the 71st and
78th minutes, respectively.
The Blazers did not allow a shot by Mt. Aloysius in the second
half as senior Shawn Fernholz (60:27) and freshman William Lane
(29:33) combined for the shutout. Jaime Ramirez collected two
assists on the afternoon, the first on Zietoon's header and the
second on one of Hood's 14 corner kick opportunities.
Hood has a pair of nonconference games coming up before it opens
Capital Athletic Conference action. The Blazers next travel to
Shenandoah University Monday for a 7 p.m. match.
