Box Score CRESSON, Pa.--First-year David Langan of the
Hood College men's soccer team (5-5) registered a pair of goals and
assisted on a third to lead the Blazers to a 5-0 blanking of the
Mt. Aloysius College Mounties (1-11) Thursday afternoon in a
nonconference match.
Hood won its third match in a row, matching the longest winning
streak for the program since early on in the 2007 campaign. That
year, the Blazers defeated Valley Forge Christian College (4-1),
Mt. Aloysius (5-1) and Lancaster Bible (4-0) within a span of 10
days in September. Hood has outscored its last three opponents 8-1
and has shutout two of its last three.
Langan wasted no time getting the Blazers on the scoreboard when
he finished a feed from junior Jon Butterfield
just 50 seconds into the game. Hood reeled off three more scores in
a span of three minutes and found itself with a 4-0 advantage 15
minutes in. Sophomore Jaime Ramirez
pocketed his first goal of the fall on a penalty kick opportunity,
then set up Langan for his second score a minute later. Sophomore
Aaron Crone
tallied his first collegiate assist on first-year Eric Diehl's second goal
of the fall. Junior Jacob Ausherman
found the back of the net for the second time this season off a
pass from Langan to cap the scoring in the 60th minute.
Blazer keeper Will
Lane scooped up the only shot on target by the Mounties which
came off the foot of Kevin Wheelden. Hood outshot Mt. Aloysius 20-4
on the afternoon.
Hood looks to carry its momentum into Saturday's crucial Capital
Athletic Conference contest against the Wesley College Wolverines
at Thomas Athletic Field. The Wolverines and Blazers are currently
tied for sixth place in the CAC standings with identical 1-2 league
marks. Wesley's lone CAC win of the season came over Stevenson
University (3-0) at home on Sept. 25, while the Wolverines lost to
Mary Washington, 2-0, and Marymount, 3-2. Hood will be looking to
avenge a 5-0 setback at the hands of the Wolverines from a year
ago.
The Blazers will also recognize senior captain Adam Peterson prior
to the contest.
