SALISBURY, Md.--The Hood College men's lacrosse team (6-8, 0-5
CAC) fell to the top team in NCAA Division III, the Salisbury
University Sea Gulls, by a count of 29-2 in Capital Athletic
Conference action Saturday afternoon.
The Blazers took on their second CAC opponent this season who
earned the number one ranking in the country. When Hood hosted the
Stevenson University Mustangs on March 31, they too held the
distinction of being voted the nation's top team.
Blake Rust and Nick Spicer were credited with Hood's two scores
on the afternoon. Spicer notched his sixth tally of the spring off
a feed from Dominique Shorter at the 11:17 mark of the first
quarter. Alex Engler found Rust on a man-up opportunity with a
little more than two minutes to play in the first period.
A total of 17 different Sea Gulls found the back of the net on
the afternoon. Mike Winter paced SU with five goals while Matt
Cannone finished with five points on three goals and two
assists.
Will Lane and John Martin split time between the pipes for the
Blazers, each making four saves.
Hood has an important CAC clash coming up on Tuesday at Thomas
Athletic Field. The Blazers will try to keep their CAC playoffs
hope alive and record their first conference triumph in program
history against Marymount University at 4 p.m.
