Box Score WASHINGTON, Pa.--Senior Nick Spicer scored his third goal of the spring 1:35 into overtime as the Hood College men's lacrosse team (5-5) rallied from a four-goal deficit to defeat the Washington & Jefferson College Presidents (3-5) by a count of 6-5 Saturday evening.
Junior Corey Roberts scored the first of his three goals on the afternoon four minutes into the first quarter off a feed from Ricky Orndorff. The helper was Orndorff's third of the year. From there, the Presidents held the Blazers scoreless for a span of 37:44 and assumed a 5-1 advantage thanks to a hat trick by Mark Ringleling.
Hood's Kris Miner finally got one past keeper Ran Kirby with 3:14 to play in the third period. The score was Miner's 14th of the year. The momentum shifted the Blazers' way in the fourth quarter as Hood ripped three unanswered scores to tie the game at 5-5. Roberts netted a pair and Miner cashed in on a man-up opportunity with 4:17 left in regulation.
W&J's Andrew Wallick had a look at the go-ahead goal but his attempt was denied by sophomore goalie Will Lane and the Blazers faced their second overtime test in three games.
Despite dominating the face-off "x" throughout the game, the Blazers were unable to secure possession to start the extra session as W&J won the face-off to start the extra session, marking the Presidents' third win out of 15 face-offs on the day. The Presidents called timeout to set the offense. But the Blazers came up with a turnover when play resumed and called a timeout of their own. On the Blazers' next possession, senior Dominique Shorter fed Spicer for the game-winning score, marking Shorter's third assist of the game.
Lane was credited with his third win of the season in the net and stopped seven shots on the day. Randolph Clark helped the Blazers win 12 face-offs and Hood outshot the Presidents 37-16.
Hood will continue its three-game road trip Wednesday at Capital Athletic Conference rival the University of Mary Washington. The Blazers and Eagles square off at 4 p.m.
