Box Score SELINSGROVE, Pa.--The Hood College men's lacrosse team (8-9) came up just short in its quest to secure the program's first-ever winning season with a 10-6 road setback at Susquehanna University (10-5) in the Blazers' season finale Tuesday evening.
With the Crusaders holding an 8-6 lead at the 9:16 mark of the fourth quarter, the contest was suspended for more than an hour due to severe weather in the area. When play resumed, Susquehanna notched consecutive scores a little more than four minutes apart to go up 10-6 before the thunderstorms returned, forcing play to be halted for good with 2:12 to go in regulation.
The Crusaders outscored Hood 3-0 in the opening period before Kris Miner got Hood on the board with his 26th goal of the season 1:40 into the second stanza. SU's Billy Spack ripped his second goal of the evening midway through the quarter and the hosts led 4-1 at halftime.
The two teams combined for eight goals by eight different players in the third quarter. Hood's Dominique Shorter found the back of the net for the 17th time this season at the 10:51 mark of the quarter. Just 1:23 later, Trey Freeman finished a pass from Randolph Clark to cut the Blazers' deficit to 5-3. James Larrimore connected on his second career goal with 5:14 to go in the period while Corey Roberts capped the Blazers' third quarter scoring off a feed from Miner and Hood trailed 8-5 heading into the final quarter.
Nick Spicer collected his sixth assist when he found Scott Thompson for the Blazers' sixth goal of the game 4:44 into the period.
Hector Montoya went 6-for-6 in the face-off "X" for Hood while Clark was also credited with six face-off wins. Starter Will Lane stopped seven shots in his 44:34 of action between the pipes.
