Box Score FREDERICK, Md.--Morgan Cole and Anna Kate Smith both scored unassisted tallies for the Hood College field hockey team (2-9, 0-4 Commonwealth) in a 9-2 Commonwealth Conference defeat at the hands of the Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen (8-5, 4-1 Commonwealth) Wednesday afternoon at Thomas Athletic Field.
The scores by Cole and Smith came in the final seven minutes of regulation. Smith got the Blazers on the board with her second goal of the season in the 65th minute and Cole registered her eighth goal of the season and 10th of her Blazer career with 1:47 left in the game.
Defenders Michelle Buhrman and Emily Richardson rejected numerous LVC chances, combining for six defensive saves, and starting keeper Ying Van Schaik blocked eight LVC attempts in the cage. The Dutchmen, who led 4-0 at halftime, pelted the Blazer cage with 34 shots on the day as seven different players scored. LVC's Kirsten Martzall registered a hat trick off the bench.
Hood continues Commonwealth Conference play Saturday at Widener University at 1 p.m.
