Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College men's soccer team dropped a Commonwealth Conference match at top ranked Messiah, 5-0.
Henry Mills (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) made a career-high 10 saves for the Blazers.
Messiah (15-0-1, 5-0-1) strengthened its grip on first place in the conference with 16 points. Hood (8-7, 3-2) remained tied for second with Lycoming at nine points.
The Falcons took the lead with a goal late in the fifth minute. Jeremy Payne received the first of Mike Kovach's two assists on the night. Kovach scored eight minutes for a 2-0 lead.
The Blazers had several chances after the Falcons took the lead. Juliano Pillari (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River North) had shots on goal in the 16th and 25th minutes, but was turned a way. Kenton Onspaugh (Ijamsville, Md. / Oakdale) had a chance in the 34th minute that resulted in another save for the Messiah keeper.
Mills had several diving saves in the first half for Hood and entered the break with six stops.
The first shot for either side in the second half belonged to Onspaugh, but once again the shot was saved.
Jack Thompson picked up his second assist of the game when he fed Zach Bosshard in the 57th minute to put the Blazers down 3-0. Scores by Thompson and Colby Thomas down the stretch put the match away.
Hood's four shots on goal were the most allowed by the Falcon defense since September 20 and only two of their 16 opponents this season have mustered more.
Brandon West made four saves for Messiah in 67 minutes. Aaron Hennigan played the remainder in relief.
The Blazers host the Warriors for Homecoming on October 25 at 3 p.m.
