Men's golf finishes play at NCAA Championships

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. - Hood College finished in 38th place after the second round of the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships at Keene Trace. 

The Cut
  • The Blazers' season comes to a close after the second round. The top 18 teams and six individuals not on those teams advance to the third and fourth rounds on May 18-19. 
The Course
  • Hood played the second round on Championship Trace, a par-72, 6,794-yard course. 
On the Scorecards
  • All five Blazers shot between 78 and 83 in the second round. 
  • Tanner Leonard (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) shot 78 for the second-straight day to lead Hood. He birdied his final hole of the tournament, the par-5, 516-yard 15th hole. The graduate student tied for 148th with a 36-hole 156. 
  • Will Kujawa (Fredericksburg, Md./Massaponax) turned in an 81 in the second round to finish at 159, tied for 170th. The senior had a birdie on number 10, a par-4, 423-yard hole. 
  • Brady Leonard (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) ended the second day with an 83 for a two-day total of 162. The junior birdied the par-3, 181-yard second hole, He was tied for 189th. 
  • Sam Driscoll (Woodsboro, Md./Walkersville) finished with an 81 in the second round. His 36-hole 163 tied for 194th.
  • Patrick Gogarty (Dagsboro, Del./Indian River) was 11 strokes better than his first round with an 81 in round two. He had par on nine holes and did not have a score worse than a bogey over the entire round. He shot a 175 and tied for 215th. 
Leaderboards
  • Hood finished at 638 after shooting 321 in the second round. 
  • Methodist and its USA South rival Piedmont are tied for the lead after 36 holes with totals of 573. 
  • Henry Scavone of Carnegie Mellon shot a 67 in the second round to create a four-way tie for first. Christopher Newport's Alex Price and St. John's (Minn.) Sam Berger and Bobby Beaubien of Illinois Wesleyan join him at 140.
Notes
  • The 36-hole 638 tied for the sixth-best team score in program history. 
  • The Blazers' 317 in the first round ties for the 22nd best 18-hole score in team history. 
  • Tanner  Leonard's 156 is tied for the 12th-best individual team score at Hood.
