How It Happened  Â
The first quarter of play saw both the Blazers and Blue Jays in a defensive stalemate, with only two shots by Hood's
Madeline Moreno (Mansfield, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) that were blocked. Â Â
Â
Both defenses showed off in the second quarter as there were zero shots on goal. This quarter of play was similar to the first as it ended in a scoreless draw. Heading into halftime, both teams went to their respective locker rooms with a score of 0-0.Â
Â
The Blue Jays finally opened up the second half of scoring two goals in the first nine minutes of the half as Sara Watson managed to put E-Town up 2-0. Before the half came to a close, the blazers would not be silenced as Scally prevented the shut out with a goal of her own. As the game progressed to the fourth quarter of play, the Blue Jays led 2-1.Â
Â
In the last quarter of regulation Hood had a plethora of quality offensive looks while the Blazer defense did not allow one shot from Elizabethtown. In this quarter alone, the Blazers were granted seven corners and had nine total shots with the final shot ending up in the back of the net thanks to Fleming. With the score now even at 2 this game was headed into overtime. Â
Â
The first overtime Hood led in shots 2-1 as Emma Massey (Felton, Del./Lake Forest) and Ava Snelsire (Ocean City, Md./Stephen Decatur) had two quality looks at the E-Town goalie; however, the extra quarter still concluded with a score of 2-2 giving the home fans more free field hockey. Â
Â
The second overtime looked promising for Hood as the Blazers started out with two early penalty corners with two shots but unfortunately for the Blazers, they could not capitalize on them. On the other end of the field, E-Town also was granted two penalty corners and had two shot attempts but were also scoreless. Since neither team could find the golden goal the match headed into a shootout. Â
