In 2001, Ron Volpe was named Hood's 10th president. With his stellar background in higher education and his limitless energy, he continued to bring a vision, passion, enthusiasm, and dedication to everything he did. 24/7, 365 days a year; for 14 years...Ron gave his time, treasures and talents to Hood College and especially his beloved Blazers and Hood athletics.

President Volpe is no stranger to the athletic world. He was a recruited athlete and competed at Gannon University (his alma mater) in basketball. He has also participated in athletics as both a coach and referee. During his years in academia, President Volpe has been involved at Colleges and Universities in all three NCAA divisions. In 2014 President Volpe announced that he was retiring from Hood. The Board of Trustees could not have found a better way to honor his commitment to Hood athletics but to name the athletic center in his honor; now known as the Ronald J. Volpe Athletic Center.

Even in retirement, you can still see at almost any Hood College basketball game, Ron leading the cheers in the stand with his wife Lin and daughter Stephanie.
