Gordie graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology. While at Hood she played field hockey and served as the team’s co-captain for two years. During her competitive years she earned the nickname “crazy legs.” Gordie was also very active in the recreation association, a club that promoted athletics at Hood. After college, Gordie began her teaching and coaching career at Middletown (Md.) Middle School. In 1989 she was selected as the Maryland State Outstanding Biology Teacher of the Year. During her four years of coaching at Middletown High School, she took her team to the state finals twice. Gordie resides in Charles Town, W.Va., with husband Jim and is a proud parent of Jeffery and grandmother of Kensley.
