Kelly Buriak Stevens graduated in 2006 with a bachelor of arts degree in biochemistry and just recently received her master’s degree in biomedical science. She was one of the busiest student-athletes on campus during her time at Hood, and showed her grit and unyielding determination by participating in multiple athletic competitions on the same day. A two-time most valuable runner in cross country, Stevens was also honored with the 2005 Silver Blazer Award in 2005 for maintaining a GPA of 3.5 or higher. She won three individual titles at Mary Baldwin College, Hollins College and Wilmington University and led the Blazers to a pair of team titles. In track and field, she was a former school record holder in the 5000 meters which until recently stood as the stadium record at Lebanon Valley College. On the tennis court, Stevens captured four Atlantic Women’s Colleges Conference singles titles and a pair of AWCC doubles titles while leading Hood to the conference tournament championship in 2003, 2004 and 2005. She ranks second all-time at Hood in career doubles wins (19) and third in career singles wins (39). Stevens was heralded as Hood’s 2005-06 outstanding female student-athlete. Still an active runner, she currently resides in Frederick with her husband, David, and two-year-old son, William and works at a biological contract manufacturing organization as an operational excellence process analyst.
