Melanie graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in management in 2004. She continued her education at Hood with a masters in business administration in 2007 and is currently pursuing her second masters degree in humanities while assisting the marketing and communications and athletics departments. Melanie was a starter for both the soccer and softball teams. After playing just two seasons as the soccer team’s goalkeeper, Melanie still holds the school record for career saves with 447. During her two years with the softball team, Hood was very successful, posting a 39-19 record. The former Frederick High School standout was named to the all-Atlantic Women’s Colleges Conference first team and was selected as the most outstanding player in 2003 and 2004. She is the program’s career leader in batting average, home runs and triples. She served as an assistant coach on the softball team after graduation and is currently a supervisory contracting officer at Fort Detrick, where she is the division chief for the services contracts division.
