Joy graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology. She continued her education by completing her master’s degree in microbiology at the University of Maryland at Baltimore. A scholar athlete, Joy competed in three sports including field hockey, basketball and lacrosse, and served as captain for the field hockey team. Joy started her coaching career at Hood College as an assistant field hockey coach under head coach Sue Lyngaas. Joy has coached at Gov. Thomas Johnson High School in Frederick and continues to be a field hockey advocate and enthusiast at the high school and Division I college levels. She is currently a manager for SAIC-Frederick, Inc., in Frederick. She resides in Frederick with husband Don, daughter Kendall and son Daniel.
